A Phonecall from Venice

My mum is traveling throughout Italy, currently in Venice... Venice. I think of the romance, the great food, Mt Marks square, the Orchestra playing at St Marks, the sexy Italian men.

Venice consumed me, I was alone in Venice although you are never really alone in Venice. I walked the canals, the bridges, scanned the shops, stood on the middle of the bridge over the main canal and observed.

I walked for 6 hours around Venice, around, down, up, across. I was lost! I had the little map in my hand, I had started my journey in St Marks Square, walked and walked, I found myself in an alley with no other people - no tourists in Venice is a worry, I followed the noise.

I turned a corner and found a supermarket! A Supermarket in Venice! I had gone too far. Started to worry.

I into a shop asked directions back to St Marks. I was near the train station!

I caught the "bus" the bus. How cute! It's not the traditional bus us Sydney-siders know, its like a ferry...

With time to spare I was thinking back to the days of Casanova, sneaking up the canals, seducing women and wondering what life would have been like in those times (I'm thinking Don Giovanni).

My mum called me last night "I'm sitting in St Marks square, having a coffee"

Dreams....

I want to go back, be enveloped and consumed in Venice.
