I received a little surprise package in the mail a couple days ago, a CD with wait for it… The ‘Speed Racer’ song.
*insert dreamy flashback music*
This song took me back to my raver days, we were about 15 years old.
I’ll paint the scene. I’m wearing a little teeny weeny tight t-shirt with ‘iron on’ transfer of a donkey, little skirt and my converse shoes, navy blue with the star coloured in with gold glitter. I had 3 or 4 little stickers on my face near my right
eye and my hair was in 2 pony tails, one tied by little pink bears the other with ice creams. Julia was wearing her astro boy t-shirt, blue shiny flared pants, vans - they were purple metallic with a carrot on the tongue, a couple of little red heart stickers near her eye and the cutest little hair clips.
There we were all dressed up to go to the rave, smurf village I think? We had told our mothers we were ‘sleeping over’ at each others houses, as you do at that age so we had the entire night, we hop onto the train all the way to industrial Ingleburn for the Alby Mangle Adventure to find the big tent to dance, well jump the night away. I only vaguely remember traipsing, skipping and laughing over the hillsides at sunrise to jump back on the long train ride home…
*insert dreamy back to current day music*
Those were the days…
I decided to play my new CD on the way to work this morning, I took an alternate route I drove along the southern side of Centennial Park speeding around the bends (like I really need encouragement) singing along and reminiscing my adolescents.
Here he comes, here comes speed racer, he’s a demon on wheels (dododododo) Go speed racer! Go speed racer! Go speed racer! Goooo!

ha ha! You were a candy kid? I giggle.
Well as you know I share the same nostalgia...and I really need a copy of this CD!
I'm enjoying these snippets of childhood! :)
Cibby - you go and giggle! Never heard the term 'candy kid' before.
Oh Jules, you will love this CD. So relevant to us ;-)
cBabe - totally unintentional! Over the weekend I wanted a pollywaffle and coincidently speed racer relates to my adolescents. No i'm not going into my horrible stage of 18-22 *shudder*
Ok! Miss Nat...Where are we going with this looking-back thing this week? Why do all parents fail to ring the 'other' parent when their kid sleeps over. This is rule Number 1 - especially when tyou have girls!!!
I was a huge Astroboy and Speed Racer fan, and man, those Pollywaffles rocked!
Friend of mine in uni drove around the entire 'township'of Darwin to find me a Pollywaffle when I was down once. Friends like that are the best.
Horrible stage - owwaahhh do tell!
Just a coincidence scorps, my mother - strict German/Scottish, her mother Russian, we were trusted we seldom misbehaved therefore when we needed to 'stretch the truth' we were able to get away with it ;-)
rom - that's FANTASTIC! so many people don't know speed racer or pollywaffles. i like you.
mushroom... maybe. i'll need more than one request :-P
I'm going to have to second the fungi's request then, Natalie. Always like a good shudder story ; )
Didn't pretty much everyone have a horrible 18-22 phase?
And I third the request for your shudder story.
I used to love "Speed Racer" when it was a cartoon on TV, and had a copy of the techno version of the song at one point, as well as a porn version where Speed and Trixie "get it on". Must dig that out and load on iTunes...
ClaRue - I think most people had a horrible adolescence really, 2 votes for another instalment.
Nick - 3 votes for the next chapter... How many do i need?
Porn version all the way! Instructions: Car, loud and pretend you're speed racer!
That's right... the Mach 5. I remember making a Mach 5 out of cardboard... but it fell in next-door's pool and by the time we fished it out with the skimmer it was ruined. I sulked for two days. Hmmmm.
Speed Racer, Trixie and the Mach 5... They were sooooo cool.
Ohhh poor GB!
Weren't they just david.
