Most of my current role is customer service; I’m that person that needs to fix something when it’s broken. Write that polite letter when there’s a complaint. Negotiate the best deal for my owner without being obnoxious... I’ve had similar roles my entire career; I’ve been told I’ve perfected the art of making uncomfortable demands while maintaining a smile. I don’t think that’s endearing.
I’ve taken over a position where a ‘yes person’ was employed. You know the ones… Can you fix a leaking tap? Yes. Can you orgainse an electrician? Yes. Can you replace all the blinds in my office? Yes. Can you replace an interior office door to our suite? Yes. Can I have $3,000 off my rent for 2 months? Yes. Can you pay for my next trip to the Caribbean? Yes.
I don’t understand the advance position these tenants have over my owner, educating them is killing me, here I come…. No. No. No. Not owner’s responsibility. ‘Oh, you negotiated with the previous agent to pay at the end of next month when you’re already 3 months in arrears? Really, can you provide me with the details of the agreement in writing?’ It was a verbal agreement ohhhh… And if I have to say ‘no tenant can legally withhold rent’ once more I’m going to scream!
With only 2 days left of my contract my prime owner told me late last night I’m fantastic, courteous and diplomatic – can I have *that* in writing?
