My Outrageous Eccentric Purchase

Mousquetaire Opera Gloves, in black naturally...

I have always loved the look how beautiful women presented themselves in 1940-1950. I've been dying to try it myself, a great little investment at $27.00 now I need to find the most suitable outfit to complement my new long gloves.

Photo's from: For The Loves Of Opera Gloves

+ Traditionally, opera gloves should not be put on in public, but should be donned in the privacy of one's home before going out.
+ If you remove your opera gloves, you should not take them off in a way that calls undue or seductive attention to the process (unless, of course, you are attempting to seduce the viewer!)
+ Your gloves should be kept on when shaking hands (e.g., in a reception line) or when dancing.
+ Gloves may also be worn while drinking, though care must be exercised not to spill liquids on them, especially when the gloves are made of kidskin or some other delicate leather. It is better to remove, or partially remove them, when practicable.
+ When you sit down to dinner, you should take off your gloves, and put them back on when dinner is over.
+ The basic rule as to length of gloves may be defined as follows: the shorter the sleeve, the longer the glove. Opera gloves are, therefore, properly worn with sleeveless or short-sleeved dresses or strapless, sleeveless (with straps) or short-sleeved evening gowns.
+ Black opera gloves should not be worn with white or light-colored dresses or gowns, but can be worn with black, dark-colored or bright-colored clothing.
+ "When putting on Her gloves, the Lady should work in the hand from the wrist, then gradually smooth the glove up the arm, rather than pulling from the top. Gloves are worn during the cocktail hour, at least the right glove removed entirely while dining, then worn again for the remainder of the evening (or night!) A Lady does not remove Her glove when shaking hands nor when presenting Her hand to be kissed. It is now very permissible to wear rings and/or a bracelet over one's glove."

My ex (H) was majorly into gloves, to the extent it almost became creepy. Gloves are oh-so fetish.

The BB shot is from Viva Maria, it's a great film!

Creepy - no don't taint it yet!

I was thinking about posting the picture of Natalie Wood in Gypsie (afterall I was named after her) but thought it was a little risqué.

Wardrobe suggestions?

Without sounding too risque, the last time I saw these type of Gloves they were on an ex and she was wearing a teddy :)
Actually IO love the look of the 30s and 40s it was so elegant and classy.

I have a teddy to wear them with - but I don't have anyone to wear the outfit for...

People just don't dress the way they used too.

And more is the pity for that...there was a certain "class" that is sadly lacking from the wear your jeans to anything of today...

Doll Face said...

Indy - you have no idea.... I went to the Opera in October last year, it was a Saturday night and there it was, spotted a girl wearing thongs! Flip flops and jeans to Sydney Opera House. Deplorable. Unacceptable attire!

There's also the inappropriate 'race' day clothing issues...

I'm with Scorpy - opera gloves and a teddy...hawt.

The last time I wore my pair I was wearing a corset and lacy thong, he (wasn't wearing anything and) seemed to think it was a very good look.

I've got a few pairs, my favourites being the long black ones.

They are all good and fun for the bedroom, but currently I'm not sharing that bedroom.

I require further wardrobe ideas - to be worn in public.

FYI hearing about all the escapades with long gloves and sexy lingerie isn't helping my longing to be touched…

I have a pair that belonged to my mum from that era. I, um... have been photographed wearing them, it was a black and white photo shoot...

I wore them for my 'formal-themed' birthday party with a long evening dress; it felt very luxurious to be seen in them.

Wardrobe suggestions would depend on the occasion: formal dinner; a night at the opera; a day at the races - I suppose, as you bought black, your dress would have to be black too - sorry, I'm such a boy - no idea about fashion - I just know what I like when I see it.

oops, sorry! ~grin~

Hmmm... I'll have to wait to go to the opera wearing my mink *squeals*

I'll watch a few episodes of SATC for inspiration
