Why!?!

In my most petulant little brat like stamping feet, WHY!

I want to see La Traviata Verdi's masterpiece of all masterpieces. The only scheduled performance is in Melbourne. Melbourne! Why would Opera Australia do that?

I go to the opera at Sydney Opera House a for a reason. It's the best Opera House in Australia, I wont even contemplate flying to Melbourne for the night. I wont stand for it! Okay, I have thought about it, but if I'm traveling anywhere for an opera its going to be Scala in Milano (been there) or Fenice, Venice.

I'm officially disappointed. I'm almost pleading for a scheduled performance in Spring...

Clearly because Sydney is a souless hell, inhabited by gun wielding neanderthals...

I absolutely love Verdi.
My mom bought me a classical set when I was younger, I repeatedly listened to Verdi so much I wore the disc thin. It refused to play
So of course I've gotten others.

That would be incredible to see it live, I never have.

That's just one more thing I need to do..

nick, i keep a hand gun in my clutch bag, who knows what will happen at the opera ;-)

trueborn - Verdi is my number one composer. Puccini is a very close second. Does it really get any better than Madama Butterfly?

Nat, the 1812 performed in the open with cannons at the Tattoo is pretty hard to beat...

La Traviata is a gem, tis true, but you can't have everything in one place.

I think the same thing when I see all the great stuff that ends up being in Birmingham or Manchester or *shudder* Milton Keynes,

My dad took me to see this when i was 17, performed at the Opera house. I fell asleep by act 3, and all i can remember is the awsome set design. I'm a heathen. Shoot me.

If you decide to go the Scala, you can also visit the Verdi museum in Milan. Many do not know that it exists but it is truly beautiful!

Indy - 1812 is sensational. I went to the military tattoo last year (I can't remember it being performed) Maybe it sounds different in bagpipes? At symphony in the park at Sydney Domain this year the 1812 was almost earthmoving, it's traditionally the last piece of the night. Ends with a bang *wink*

DA - I know it’s irrational to want EVERYTHING on my doorstep, but I am talking about Sydney.

Steph - Try the Opera again, we grow to appreciate it with age...

David - I wish I knew about the Verdi museum, I missed soooo much while I was overseas, I only found out recently I had lunch literally next door to Renoir's house and didn't know it existed! *cries*

Scorpy - I'm really considering it. Thanks for backing me up re: Sydney v Melbourne!

Dirk - I can't waste time I know...
