‘P’ for Professionalism

It just irks me! I’m booking flights, accommodation, hire cars etc... I’m given reservation details Wheel of Fortune-esque: A for Apple, F for Freddie, O for Orange, C for Cat. I firmly believe anyone in an industry where alpha confirmations are used should learn the NATO phonetic alphabet!

OMG Nat, i couldn't agree more! i have this arguement almost every day at work- working in transport with flight numbers and such, you would expect people to have some idea!!
the WORST most CRINGE-WORTHY is N for Nelly. i want to hit someone when they say that. WTF is Nelly??

but speaking of Wheel of Fortune, i would like to reiterate my feelings for Larry Emdur.
Larry- I love you. you are so hot right now

Stef - first on *this* blog!?!?!

Vikki - Nelly? LMAO! The only time I EVER say N for something... N for Natalie when I'm giving my email address :-P

My favourite one: Hot Shots "Yankee Doodle Floppy Disk, this is Foxtrot Zulu Milkshake," "Alpha Velveeta Knuckle Underwear, you are cleared for take-off," and "Sphincter Mucus Layer Ringworm, roger."

Bravo Zulu*, Nat! I concur that all phonetics should be Military as should time!!!
* basically means well done

Wasn't Nelly a horse as in "whoa there Nelly" and Scorpy I agree with the time thing, 24hour just makes so much more sense...but if we introduced Military terms to the Civilian world all we'd get is a world in need of something other than an acronym.

I cringe everytime I have to spell my name. And who the hell are Nelly and Sam?!?! Maybe I should create my own.. C for ChickyBabe!:P

Thanks Scorps :-) I always type my itineraries in 24hour but for some reason when i'm talking time I use am/pm - i need to become more consistent.

Indy - have you ever seen the look of utter confusion when you use 24hour/military times.. people just don't get it, I find it amusing :-P

cBabe - I have NFI who Nelly and Sam are.. I'll go by Indy's suggestion, Nelly for the horse and Sam, maybe Uncle Sam?!?!?

Ahhh no - your giving me flashback to my army days. One think that i learnt was that the phonetic alphabet isn't the language of love!

You could always out-Wheel them:

No, D for doddermouse, didn't you know?

What?

O - Orange? You silly thing, O is Obstreperous.

Nelly? Catch up mate, N is Nincompoop.

etc

Very cute nick :-)

Greg, how about Tango on the Sierra with some Whiskey and then go back to my Hotel :-P

Love it wombat!

R. Allen - You must be joking! But then again I've had:

'how large is the land?'

'760sqm'

'how big is that?'

Vik - Noooooo! I almost choked on my coffee while reading that. But really, if anyone would, she would (in the nicest possible way)

Using the phonetic alphabet to spell out passwords to people who do not speak English is frustrating.

They don't know what a Sierra or a Tango is... So it is simple english words: "T for tree", "S for Sam", "W for water" it is for me.

At least you had a choice Natalie... having two pilot parents I could recite the phonectic alphabet before other kids my age could recite "twinkle twinkle little star"!
