How Was Your First Week At The New Job?

My first week consisted of working 2 whole days, oh what am I saying I finished early on Thursday. Why can’t every week be like this? 2 days of work, 5 days of relaxation. I think everyone would be happier. Lets start a petition!

How do people commute on public transport on a daily basis? Day 2 and I’ve already had enough, all these people wandering in the same direction that just appear to be meandering aimlessly. Am I the only person that walks with conviction and a sense of persons surrounding me?

My first day consisted mostly of sitting on the floor next to the window sorting through 9 boxes of documents, files and folders. It was an organised mess. That’s what I’m sticking to. My concentration isn’t at its full potential, I haven’t had to learn something new or focus on anything over the last 11 weeks or so.

It feels strange starting work where my only tool is my phone. We will be getting computers next week and the phone system is in but not set up, one outgoing line.

For my first day I read, and read, and read. The only way to familiarise myself with projects. Yes, I said projects, they do development *happy dance*. My new office is predominately commercial real estate, I have all my experience in residential. So exciting learning something new.

I’ve been introduced to many people as ‘Building Manger’ also new to me. A few as ‘Property Manager’, former management will know me as ‘Office Manager’. How I love the property game.

To finish off my first day (before 4pm) I met a girlfriend for an after work drink, being in the CBD now it’s just so easy. We had a drink at…
The Vault Hotel
Ryan’s Bar
Quay Bar

On the walk back to the train station I saw a guy I went to school with, the guy I had a crush on…

Today I felt like I’ve been thrown in the deep end and I’m trying my hardest to stay afloat.

One event has put my mind at ease; my ex-MD is looking at coming on board. The one I worked with in 2001, the one that approached me to be licensee of his business, the one that allowed me to be curator at his art exhibition, the one that held my hand went I had my operation, the one I go out and drink with to all hours.

My first meeting was at 9am, then back at the office going through files, a long chat with boss to go over requirements of the business and direction. What he wants to do, how I think it can be achieved.

By mid afternoon I have been handed over 2 commercial properties to sell, 4 to lease, attended to a leak from a concrete slab and developed a crush on the plumber looking at the leak, been distracted by the Jetstar monorail going past the window. The orange is too bright!

I’ve been given lots of homework, it’s 7pm on a Friday night and I’m still working. (took little break to write this, yesterday was written yesterday).

I’m back onto OTE, I haven’t been a commission working girl for a few years. Ha! My last commission job had a generous base anyway. After the last many weeks of unemployment my confidence has taken a bashing, my ego stomped on by recruitment consultants telling me that I “don’t have enough experience to be a PA”. My prime role in the next 3 months is Business Development, an area I’m not well versed in. I need to learn fast and brush up in my sales pitches.

Nothing like being back into it, isn't it? Recruitment consultants can take a hike! No excuse for stripping people's confidence.

When I went to Sydney I went to tso fo the waterholes you mentioned, very nice bars, especially Ryan's Bar :)
My other half used to be in Real Estate until 8 years ago, Property Manager was the postition. His hours were just excruciating and took time away from us here at home, we had 2 boys by that stage.
It is good you are learning something new, it will hopefully make it more interesting for you.
Hey, you should have backtracked and asked that plumber out :) Or got him on side in case you needed his "services" at some stage, lol, I meant for the industry you are in :)

Yeah, commuting pretty much sucks. Smelly people, bad service (scrap that. You can't complain about the service, because there is none).

Best of luck in your new job! 2 days on, 5 days off is the way the world *should* be run.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! Good news Natalie. And hey, you'll figure it out... you know all these "titles" mean very little. And I agree with Cazzie on the plumber. ;)
