Last night I wanted to just sit back relax and watch a bit of mind numbing TV before heading off the bed early and read the same page 6 times before falling asleep. An ideal Tuesday night when I have no plans nor care to make any (other than a possible dinner date to get me out of cooking, yep feeling that lazy)
What a turn of events, after making myself a light dinner, plonked myself on the lounge I saw a preview for 3 Needles and as World Aids Day was last Friday, which I fully intended to write a little something in support, but as far as I got was wearing red.
My eyes were fixed on the screen. 3 Needles is by no means going to win any awards for its brilliance however it displays bluntly that the virus doesn’t discriminate against sexual orientations, money, religion or borders. 3 stories of the Aids epidemic on 3 different continents
It opens with what the western world would see as a brutal genital mutilation in tribal South Africa. A coming of age ceremony for teenage boys by way of ritualistic circumcision which spreads the disease… We are then taken to a remote village in China where a black-market blood dealer collects blood from poor farmers and spreads the virus through dirty equipment and non-testing of blood. The virus wipes out entire villages and the blood dealer moves onto another town. The story in Montreal Canada introduces the viewer to the life of a porn star that’s contracted the virus, it’s a disturbing story as he passes his monthly tests by substituting his father’s blood to continue working, the rest of the story is far fetched to the point of ridiculous. The story goes back to Africa and the Aids–decimated plantation, where those infected with the virus are prescribed by the witch doctor to get rid of the infection is to have sex with a virgin. This results in rapes of children as young as 4 and attacks on the nuns coming to assist.
These aren’t just stories unfortunately, it wasn’t too long ago there was a man from Africa in Australia with the virus, he had infected 2 woman via unprotected sex, he didn’t find anything wrong with his actions.
I remember when a friend would always comment on my constant abuse of my body, bad food, not working out enough, late nights out, drinking too much alcohol. He would say to me ‘a moment on the lips is a lifetime on the hips’ it wasn’t until recently I was advised he has been battling the Aids virus for many years.
With that said, awareness heightened, this post is my little way of showing support for those unfortunate to contract the disease by innocence.

Swagato
Great post! I hadn't heard of this film. I'll have to check it out.
hear hear. :)
Responsibility is something difficult for someone who feels they were wronged without cause. Aids, as many other conditions, are sad, difficult, most often unfair and most likely a product of our advancement.
I will have to see this film.
Does that mean you are less supportive of those that do not contract the disease through innocence?
that movie is interesting... it's based on true events:
- there was a village in China where they collected blood from all the farmers, mixed it all up in a big vat, then used it for transfusions, infecting thousands of people with AIDS.
- there was a Montreal porn star that came down with AIDS..
- I'm sure I've heard that African story on the news, as well.
Sometimes, I feel like AIDS is Nature's way of telling us, you've got too many people on this planet!
swagato, thats the message :-)
Tessa - thanks, it is a good movie, but not great - its trying through the Canadian story
GB - thanks :-)
David, im sure many people think they were wronged, this will then see further examples of the Aferican guy trying to infect as many people as possible... Its sad.
Sarah, here is where i make a stand. Thats right. This virius has so much publicity over the last 5-10 years, anyone that contrcts the disease via needle sharing, unprotected sex etc knows the risk and i'm not going to feel sorry for them, people should be responsible. Just my opinion, i dont want to be ridiculed for it..
Cibby, i didnt know it was based on a real story, i suspected as much.. I know what you mean about earths population.
No ridiculing! You have the right to your opinion- I do agree that there has been enough publicity that people should really be smarter when making choices.
