My heart felt like it skipped a beat before pounding. I tightened the grip on my bag. I know what I saw, this feeling can not be my imagination…
2 kids, teenagers in the local sandwich shop in Surry Hills, 1 kid went to the fridge removed 2 cans of drink placeing them under his jacket, the other was standing at the door, a lady left and he asked her for money, I’m aware, I glanced towards the door whilst my sandwich is being prepared, the kid was pointing towards the counter and then at his wrist, I was the only person in the shop, I felt anxiety swallow me, they both walked out, I was stunned, felt uneasy, I rang my boss and asked him to met me there, I was too frightened to walk back to the office alone.
First time I felt real fear in broad daylight…

I had a shotgun pointed at me in the Philippines and a handgun waved in my face in Malaysia and Hawaii...but that was fear I could deal with (I was in the services and these were security guards)...the fear you speak of is the total unknown...that sudden burst of adreneline because all of the bad stories you have ever heard just came within arms reach...been there and done that...take care Nat and stay safe
That sounds scary as hell! Bloody teenagers...
Did he have a gun? Shit, I never think of those things in Adelaide.
that's terrible...
it's terrible because these kids are getting off on producing fear.
Did you ever see Battle Royale? I think we're ready for that...
Scorpy, the pair just don't compare. I could happily go the rest of my life never ever seeing a shot gun.
Bloody teenagers - That's why I hate kids!
No I've never seen Battle Royale (I'll google)
You did well by keeping cool and calling your boss. I don't know what I would have done when struck by fear.
For those of you that haven't seen it - Battle Royale is this crazy Japanese novel/movie where out-of-control teenagers are sent to an island where they have to kill each other.
It's like a demented Survivor. They all get different weapons, some useless. It's pretty interesting, but sometimes I think we're right on the edge of it happening when 14-yr-old girls are murderizing elderly cabbies in Western Sydney...
Thanks cBabe
Ahhh... so the movie is a bit like 'Lord of the Flies' Oh that whole 14-year old girl thing is a scary thing!
I know that feeling all to well, having seen a couple of riots start. Did you get that whole time dilation thing, where you can see it all unfolding but everything is in slow-mo? I'm ok until that happens... then the fight or flight instict kicks in. Shakes you up, for sure.
