Absofuckinglutely fanfuckingtastic!
We got our favourite table at Our Local (there's only 4 tables, hence the prompt departure from work), close to the BIG screen but not too close, a bottle of our favourite red, my $6 steak was cooked to perfection on top of creamy mash potato, J. had a heart shaped schnitzel (so cute) we had a Wentworth Courier to peruse while waiting for the game to start and a chocolate bar on the table for dessert.
We were set for one of the biggest nights in Rugby League. Game 1. State of Origin.
This what the game is all about, the best of the best (excluding the injured) the passion, the sweat, the pub sweep, the words of encouragement shouted in the 5:1 guys to gal’s crowd, the stray ‘go the wallabies’ being shouted in paramount stages of the game… Ahhh so Aussie, yelling 'go go go' at the top of my lungs, the stress of the 16-16 draw written over our faces, watching the players up close, their thigh muscles flexing makes me quiver and the triumph, oh the triumph! Finch, called in at 9pm the night before to fill in, his performance, magnificent with the winning drop kick with 3 minutes left on the clock! Play like that for your own team everyday! Grrrrr… (yep, Roosters fan)
Sounds like the perfect night at the pub? Well, cute guy talks to J. with 10 minutes left on the game, she doesn’t talk to him. Why? We agree he was looking for some ‘post game entertainment’. I see a guy I, um, ahh almost hooked up with early October last year and didn’t turn up at our next ‘I'll meet you at the pub on Wednesday’ the polite smile was all I could muster. NEVER again will I hook up with someone from the local, inevitably bumping into him again at my home away from home...

mmmm, I could use a $6 steak right about now...
The BEST pub steak in Sydney - FACT!
what? get outta here.
where's that, in the city? Or do you live in some weird, faraway suburb that I've never heard of?
I was surrounded by weeping Queenslanders...it was brilliant!!
How good was the game! Of course anytime we smack Qld is good, but last night was edge of your seat stuff. Brilliant.
Cibbuano - Eastern Suburbs baby! Robin Hood Hotel.
Such a wonderful feeling scorps! Can you belive Game 3 is being played in Melbourne!?! Just don't get it, will the NRL introduce tri-state origin?
I didn't know you were a fan Steph! YAY!!!! Brilliant game! Love it!
Ahh, Rugby. Yet another sport I don't understand. Don't worry, its in good company, alongside many other sports, some of which I played in school.
I'm too scared to go drink alone, so I don't really have a local. Plus, all the bars around here are so loud that I can't hear anybody speak, which sucks, cuz I like conversation with my booze, not the latest childish renderings of ghetto-speak done by someone who grew up in a suburb in Vermont, nor do I wish to listen to the latest Twang of Cuntry Crap.
I'm glad you had a good night, and I wish you and your steak a good night's digestion.
Don't worry about the third game, NSW will wrap it up in Game 2.
if only i could find a perfect $6 steak out here in the 'burbs.
Coyote Mike - I hate loud music in pubs, I just like to go somewhere that's relaxed and sit back with friends, yelling back and forth is horrible and i refuse to do so, my voice raises pitch and it's not pretty...
Xcaped - fingers crossed, legs crossed, everything crossed!
Okay mister - where are you located, i'll tell you where to get the best budget food in Sydney :-P
